Ah Well

Due to technical difficulties, the movie I planned to see this evening was cancelled. So I came home and had dinner with my husband. I was disappointed, but there will be another time. However, do not purchase tickets online for this move at the link I provided. Apparently there was a misunderstanding and the ticket agent is not handling the arrangement but will happily take your money anyway. It’s complicated. I’m out 8 bucks.

My car is six years old and almost at 50,000 miles. It’s never had a brake job. They are sqeaking (have been for awhile). It’s time. So I called the wonderful mechanic who fixed my car before to see when he could fit me in next week. When I told him I needed an oil change and a brake job and asked if I could come in Monday, he replied, “You can’t wait until Monday. You will probably drive the car over the weekend, yes? A car with that many miles that has squeaky breaks needs to be fixed immediately. I would not be able to rest over the weekend knowing this. Bring it in tomorrow.”

Yeah, I know I’ll pay him for the work he does. It’s just a business transaction. But the fact that he was concerned rather touched me. He’s a two-man shop with a lot of business and he’s going to work me in because his ethics won’t permit him to wait until next week. How often does that occur?

    Hey,
Just so you know, the screening happened but got moved. So sorry, it was out of our control, anyone who bought a ticket but didn’t get to see the film will not have their credit card charged, the payment is held by the ticketing software until after the event. So that will be no problem.

So the people in the wrong her were not the ticketing site, it was the venue, and to be real specific, a shady guy who was mis-representing himself as the person who could book us at the venue even though he didn’t really have that power so we got booted for being double booked.

Anyway, thanks for getting the word out about us on your blog,
    take it easy,
    Arin
Hope you get a chane to see it next thursday, I’ll have ambrosia give you the details about the new location we will need to set up for next week…

make sure you go by the Car Talk website and put up a vote for him — it’s a great way to reward that rare gem of a thorough and principled mechanic.

    yay!

Hey Arin, yes, it was a bummer, but I rallied. 🙂 I’m looking forward to seeing the movie at some point and I’ll check with Ambrosia. Thanks for letting me know about the ticket purchase system too.

ACM — I’ll have to do that right now! I’d no idea about that feature at Car Talk but I’m not surprised…

I’ve basically given up going out to movies. We somehow live in an era where audiences feel privileged to talk throughout films, exhibitors feel privileged to show commercials even though I’ve paid to see the film, and theaters are filthy. There is no movie I want to see so much I won’t wait for the DVD, and if there’s no DVD, then so be it. I know there are some movies I’ll just never get to see, and that’s sad.

I’ve never run across such a car mechanic. You are lucky.

Great blog! Don’t know how I got here but here I got! My son is a mechanic and you’d think it would save me loads of $$ but not. He never has time. Isn’t that just the way things go? I’m off to read more of what you’ve written. Drop by and visit me if you ever have a spare moment (what’s that, right?)
