It’s nearly 4:30 a.m. In the past two weeks, I’ve become well-acquainted with the wee hours. Many nights I’ll go to bed tired at 11:00 p.m. only to be unable to sleep, and then I get up and read or surf until I get sleepy around 4:00 a.m. And then I go sleep on the sofa, because for some reason that’s the only place I can fall asleep.
I’m not sure what’s up. I don’t have caffeine ever, and I exercise. I take a medication that can contribute to insomnia (a side effect), but I take it early in the day, and besides, it never affected my sleep before.
These are lonely hours.

We cannot understand these passages, in which mysterious, unseen inner work disturbs the night, much as we cannot fathom the invisible power of the moon, which has been preening these last 2 weeks for its spectacular show tonight. All of us, and especially you, are now under its spell. It’s amazing what happens at night! Sweet dreams ahead.
I, too, have been getting up early, when more sleep would doubtless be healthy. Don’t know why.
It’s nice to see your posts rolling out again. I missed them.
As a lifelong insomniac, I sure can identify with your poem, Kathryn–and the frustration. As I’m growing older, I go to bed very late, but once I fall asleep, I’m good to go.
I’m sure the move has somehow confused your internal clock but I know you have life plans you are mulling, too.
Love your kitty pictures!
