Today is my mother’s 75th birthday. Here she is with Claire on her lap, reading a book to her. It’s difficult to articulate the precious feeling inside me when I see my daughter and mother together. Happy birthday, Mom!

What a precious picture. I am also thrilled to see them reading (I think) one of the books that I sent to Claire. It is one of my favorites anyway. So pleased that your parents could meet Claire and share some special time with her.
How lovely that you all get to be together on your Mum’s special birthday. Enjoy! That is a lovely picture of a Nanna.

Happy birthday to your mom. My mom’s birthday is today. My niece’s birthday is today, too. And my good, good friend. Some of my favorite people were born in October.
Hey, your post below about your little girl meeting the beach and the ocean brought to mind one of my favorite poems of all time ever. I’ve loved it since I first read it when I was a child:
10
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
–ee cummings
I always find my best, truest self when I’m standing at the ocean’s edge.
