I’d been meaning to knit a small purse that will hold my wallet and keys and that I can fit into my messenger/laptop bag. I no longer carry a purse; my wallet goes into the front pocket on my laptop bag. But sometimes a girl needs just to carry her wallet. Unfortunately, I’ve nearly walked away without it on several occasions (while in a store for example). This morning I forgot to put the wallet back into the laptop bag for work. So when I got home, I pulled out the yarn and needles. Six hours later, this is the result.
The mother of pearl buttons are from my Mom. The strap is a bit longer than I’d wanted, but it will suffice. My hands ache, but I feel very pleased with how I spent my evening.

I don’t knit but I appreciate — what a great idea!
so explain to me what purpose is served by the wallet? I mean, I put my money, ID, and cards in a pants pocket, chapstick (or whatever) and keys in the other, and no chance of anything’s being left behind! oppressive baggage, be gone!
My pants do not necessarily have pockets all the time. Also, if I just put the money, cards and ID in my pants pocket, there’s a greater chance of losing or laundering them. (I’ve done both.) And I like to use a checkbook style wallet. To each her own.
