Little Hands

This photo is of Claire’s reflection in her tummy time toy mirror. Notice that she isn’t on her tummy. Still not a preferred position!

just from my own ignorance, is “tummy time” something theraputic? I mean, she’ll get there when she wants to get moving, so meantime, is there a problem with her lying on her back?

Because babies are no longer put on their stomachs to sleep (due to risk of SIDS) and thus spend nearly all their time on their backs, they need to spend a little time on their stomachs each day so they can develop the muscle and coordination that will help them sit-up, crawl, and walk. (At least this is what the American Academy of Pediatrics advises.) This requires real effort since the head is so disproportionately large compared to the rest of the body.

I adore your child. I covet her. Please load up the car and take a long drive and leave her at our house where I can nibble away while you go to the spa. We will spoil her mercilessly. She will know in her very bones that she is a princess; and her mother, a queen.
