Still Here

I’ve been on a reading binge. In the past 13 days I have read 1600 pages. The second novel I just finished yesterday was The Mists of Avalon. In between reading sessions I’ve unpacked my books and finished unpacking the office. The guest room is almost totally clear of boxes, and lots of items were stored in the attic with the help of our friends.

I haven’t had much to say, and again, being immersed in these epic stories has taken me into another realm than the Internet. I’m a little dazed; it’s like coming out of a dark movie theater matinee into broad daylight. I’m adjusting, and I have a massive headache at the moment. Too much brain work lately.

Reading binges are delightful things… I think one should indulge regularly 🙂
Glad to hear all is well in your world except for that headache… Wouldn’t it be great to send it into outerspace where it could evaporate in the ozone 🙂

In one sense the book was interminable. I could have done without the repeated iterations about how important it was to give the king a son, how beautiful or ugly the characters felt, the endless contemplation of piety, the extreme decorum of speech—all this made the story much longer than was needed to tell a good tale. On the other hand, I could not put the book down, so it had power and a good story. It was worth the effort.

I loved the Mists of Avalon! I’ve seen the movie, too, but the book itself is so long that it was hard to consolidate it into only a few hours. I wish I had time to read again…good for you for taking advantage of it! 🙂

I was going to ask if this was the first time you read it. I thought the same thing as you did when I reached the middle of the book- too long but still a good story.

I never got past the first half-hour of the movie. Whoever adapted it had no feeling for the book.
