Illustration Friday: E is for… Eyeglass Holder

A common question that reverberates inside our home, particularly when I’m about to go out, is “Where are my eyeglasses?” I need them for driving and they help with reading, but when I’m at home I can function without them. They invariably end up: on a bookcase, on the hearth, on my nightstand, on the desk, on the kitchen table, on the bathroom sink, on and on and… Last weekend Husband pleaded with me to designate a spot in the house where I will put my glasses all the time. (It was more like an edict. He said the next time we’re about to go out and I can’t find my glasses, he’d leave without me. I know he wouldn’t, but that’s how desperate the poor man is, resorting to silly ultimatums.)

I decided on the desk. To reduce the risk of the glasses being buried under junk mail, I would make a holder for them. I didn’t want to spend money, though. Free time is at a minimum this week, and energy isn’t abundant. I’d planned to collage a small cardboard box (similar to the one I made for my nightstand). Instead I settled for painting it a dark shade of green and using a stipple brush with metallic gold paint. Quick. Simple. Does the job with a little flair.

Awesome picture! One of my first jobs was as director of education at Salt City Center for the Performing Arts at Syracuse University! I also taught theatre (disciplined in Mime) at SUNY Oswego!
