I’ve been watching the HBO show, Rome. Although pretty gory, it’s richly done. I’m fascinated with the religious practices they depict. Recently one character, on seeing another in very bad shape after an attack, exclaimed “Bona Dea!” I was intrigued. Bona Dea means “good goddess.” She is the Roman goddess of fertility, healing, virginity and women. The symbols associated with her are the cornucopia, coins, and snakes. Since my first unsuccessful pregnancy last summer, the concepts of motherhood and fertility predominate in my life. The idea for this drawing came to me as I dozed before bed last night. In this drawing she is blessing the fruit and the body that bears it.

ah, beautiful!
this is so lovely kathryn.
as for filling up the well. sometimes an “artist’s date” is helpful. a date with just yourself doing something that is fun…going to a dollar store, people watching, walking around in a gardening shop, visiting a museum, looking at antiques, sketching in the garden, taking a long bubble bath. treat yourself. xoxoxo
So moving. Literally, it moves you through an experience. I’m in awe of your talent!
I love the drawing. Do lots & lots more.
