It was fruitful. I&#8217;m tired and glad to be home. All that I experienced is settling, so I hesitate to write extensively about it. Here are some brief reflections. The first one is from my drive down, when I stopped at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=558\">San Luis Reservoir<\/a> for a break. The entire drive leads through two mountain ranges (the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diablo_Range\">Diablo Mountains<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pacheco_Pass\">Pacheco Pass<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tehachapi_Mountains\">Tehachapi Mountains<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tejon_Pass\">Tejon Pass<\/a>) and the central valley; it&#8217;s beautiful country. It&#8217;s a six hour drive (one way) &#8212; which is just right.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brief Notes of an Adventure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lake &#8212; a bowl of glitter!<br \/>\nWinds whisper to water,<br \/>\nwaves murmur replies.<br \/>\nA crow flies, snail snared<br \/>\nin its beak.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Rooster crows, broom sweeps.<br \/>\nA car growls to life.<br \/>\nHelicopters thump the sky.<br \/>\nPigeon wings slap air.<br \/>\nSirens keen, dogs bark.<br \/>\nZazen in L.A.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>My food &#8211; Advil.<br \/>\nMy nectar &#8211; water.<br \/>\nMy balm &#8211; sleep.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Now the cushion<br \/>\nNow the breath<br \/>\nNow the work.<br \/>\nSamadhi does not<br \/>\ncome in a box or book.<br \/>\nIt cannot be imagined<br \/>\nor conjured.<br \/>\nBells, incense, bows, chants<br \/>\nbring dignity and form<br \/>\nto the formless.<br \/>\nBut above all,<br \/>\nit is about the work.<br \/>\nBreath.<br \/>\nSamadhi.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Cresting the mountain,<br \/>\nvalley a blanket spread low;<br \/>\nslices of miles served &#8211;<br \/>\nfeast towards home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Kathryn Harper<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just returned from my first sesshin at Hazy Moon Zen Center.
