{"id":2502,"date":"2006-03-27T19:53:30","date_gmt":"2006-03-28T02:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/?p=2502"},"modified":"2026-01-21T16:44:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T00:44:18","slug":"despite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/2006\/03\/27\/despite\/","title":{"rendered":"Despite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Despite<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under stacked magazines,<br \/>\nA floor made of wood<br \/>\nEchoes faintly<br \/>\nThe breath of ancient trees.<br \/>\nMan, the despoiler,<br \/>\nCleaves and plunders the earth.<\/p>\n<p>Under the dim canopy<br \/>\nOf towering redwood,<br \/>\nSeeds germinate<br \/>\nDaily, cell by cell.<br \/>\nNature, objective,<br \/>\nRegenerates life.<br \/>\nA miracle of chaos<br \/>\nFlows forth<br \/>\nDespite human machinations.<\/p>\n<p>This incredibly trite poem is built off of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bartleby.com\/165\/90.html\">Under the Harvest Moon<\/a>. For whatever reason, even though I love Sandburg, this poem inspired me least of the three I&#8217;ve used as scaffold. It could be the raging headache that hindered me. It could be I&#8217;m tired of the exercise, taking the form too literally as I build. However, it&#8217;s all good practice (I suppose).
