{"id":2065,"date":"2007-10-05T00:04:50","date_gmt":"2007-10-05T07:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/2007\/10\/05\/three-dozen-reasons\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T14:48:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T22:48:58","slug":"three-dozen-reasons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/2007\/10\/05\/three-dozen-reasons\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Dozen Reasons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(This post is more for myself and may be of zero interest to you.)\t<\/p>\n<p>I Am Grateful For\/That:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I have a washer and dryer inside my home and don&#8217;t have to lug laundry to a laundromat.<\/li>\n<li>Ditto for the dishwasher to save us from hand washing dishes constantly.<\/li>\n<li>The invention of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toysrus.com\/product\/index.jsp?productId=2738110\">baby bottle dishwasher basket<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve got good quality ground coffee on hand (and it&#8217;s even <em>fair trade<\/em> coffee).<\/li>\n<li>Bean is growing and is over her cold.<\/li>\n<li>Slipping into deep, sweet sleep with the occasional help of Dr. Ambien.<\/li>\n<li>It doesn&#8217;t matter that the house hasn&#8217;t been vacuumed in a month, because I have a newborn, and that&#8217;s a reasonable excuse.<\/li>\n<li>Managing to put clean sheets on the bed and clean towels in the bathroom last night.<\/li>\n<li>Husband and I got long hot showers last night.<\/li>\n<li>Tivo. Costco.<\/li>\n<li>The 30 minutes I had yesterday to finish my pregnancy journal entries, complete with photos.<\/li>\n<li>The white noise CD Husband made (he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lurklurk.org\/whitenoise.html\">found the sound files free on the web<\/a>); when Bean is swaddled, rocked, and the volume is turned up sufficiently, it calms her immediately and helps her fall and stay asleep.<\/li>\n<li>Learning that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colors_of_noise\">noise comes in different colors<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Other free stuff on the web, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/baby.zorger.com\/\">black and white shapes to print and show to baby<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>My sister-in-law is planning to visit from Austin sometime in the next month.<\/li>\n<li>Getting myself and Bean out for a short walk yesterday by myself (meaning I was able to lift the stroller and carrier and get us up and down the front stairs).<\/li>\n<li>Blogs such as: <a href=\"http:\/\/mommazen.blogspot.com\/\">Cheerio Road<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/antiquemommy.com\/\">Antique Mommy<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cuteoverload.com\/\">Cute Overload<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/icanhascheezburger.com\/\">I Can Has Cheezburger?<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Husband being such a collaborative and patient co-parent who is capable of seeing humor in many situations.<\/li>\n<li>Heating pads (and electricity) for my sore back.<\/li>\n<li>The magic of the baby swing. And D batteries.<\/li>\n<li>The look of recognition that I see glimmering in Bean&#8217;s eyes when I pick her up.<\/li>\n<li>Swaddling.<\/li>\n<li>Friends who come over on short notice to take a walk with me and Bean.<\/li>\n<li>Friends who bring us meals (home-made, deli, take-out, restaurant gift cards).<\/li>\n<li>The ten zillion old cloth diapers my mother sent us to use as burp cloths.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eucerinus.com\/products\/baby_aqua.html\">Eucerin Aquafor healing ointment <\/a>(great diaper rash preventive and general baby moisturizer).<\/li>\n<li>Adjusting to Bean&#8217;s crying (still challenged by that, though).<\/li>\n<li>Bean&#8217;s fascination when I read aloud to her; she turns her face toward me if she&#8217;s in the swing and looks intently in my direction, although I know she doesn&#8217;t see clearly.<\/li>\n<li>Generous family leave benefits from Husband&#8217;s employer.<\/li>\n<li>No more itching of my C-section scar.<\/li>\n<li>Stella the cat and her <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/equanimous\">equanimous<\/a> personality.<\/li>\n<li>The many gifts, cards, and flowers we (including Bean) received celebrating Bean&#8217;s birth.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve lost <em>all<\/em> of the baby weight and now weigh less than I did at conception last December. It&#8217;s good to wear my old clothes again.<\/li>\n<li>The pain in my left knee has gone, as has the hip joint pain, thanks to the Relaxin being out of my system.<\/li>\n<li>The pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel syndrome is abating; I still can&#8217;t knit, but my hands don&#8217;t go numb holding a pen or the phone anymore, and there aren&#8217;t shooting pains up my forearms anymore.<\/li>\n<li>Bean smiles!! Real smiles in response to ours. She also coos and vocalizes more.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(This post is more for myself and may be of zero interest to you.)
