{"id":10730,"date":"2020-10-28T08:29:46","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T15:29:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/?p=10730"},"modified":"2026-01-21T16:28:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T00:28:22","slug":"the-yes-began-to-root-in-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kathrynpetroharper.com\/mindfullife\/2020\/10\/28\/the-yes-began-to-root-in-me\/","title":{"rendered":"The Yes Began to Root In Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Something Like This, Anyway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If I prayed, which I don\u2019t,<br \/>\nthen we could say that I asked<br \/>\ngod to open every door that I<br \/>\nhad shut, every door I did not<br \/>\nknow was there.<br \/>\nWhy I asked this, well,<br \/>\nthis will make sense to you<br \/>\nor it won\u2019t, but every closed<br \/>\ndoor I was aware of<br \/>\nhad became a point of suffering.<br \/>\nAnd with every open door,<br \/>\nI could feel congruence,<br \/>\nthe world rushing in to create<br \/>\nmore space in me.<br \/>\nAnd god said to me, though<br \/>\nwe could not say that it was a voice,<br \/>\ngod said, Open even the door with people jeering<br \/>\non the other side, their faces twisted<br \/>\nin hate? Even the door to an entire<br \/>\nforest of sorrow? And because<br \/>\nthis conversation was not really<br \/>\nhappening, we could not say that<br \/>\nI said yes to the questions, but<br \/>\nwe could say, perhaps, that<br \/>\nthe yes began to root in me<br \/>\nand it was not so much a matter<br \/>\nof someone opening the doors<br \/>\nbut that the doors more or less<br \/>\ndissolved. And what I had thought<br \/>\ncould separate me from anything else<br \/>\nwas shown to be nothing at all.<br \/>\nI would like to tell you that I felt grace<br \/>\nin the opening, but the truth<br \/>\nis I felt such terrible ache.<br \/>\nAnd god did not come put a hand<br \/>\non my cheek and tell me<br \/>\neverything would be okay.<br \/>\nIn fact, if anything, the voice<br \/>\nI did not hear told me<br \/>\nthere are no promises.<br \/>\nBut I felt it, the invitation<br \/>\nto keep opening doors,<br \/>\nto not close my eyes,<br \/>\nto not turn away.<br \/>\nAnd though I do not pray,<br \/>\nI said thank you, thank you. <\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Something Like This, Anyway If I prayed, which I don\u2019t, then we could say that I asked god to open every door that I had shut, every door I did not know was there.
