Autumn Beauty & Savory Fare

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

We made some today. Sequins make life sparkle! I also received a bread maker from a friend’s friend, hardly used. My first loaf of whole wheat bread was quite delicious. I just need to learn to slice evenly. (It makes great pizza dough too.)

The house is clean, presents wrapped, backyard almost set up (Husband’s job), balloons bought, rooms decorated, pizza ordered, appetizers prepped, ice purchased for the cooler, and most importantly, cakes baked and decorated! Claire asked for chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and cupcakes. (Cake decorating is not going to be my next profession, but it’s made […]

Homemade Mmmm

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

You can get a Little Caesars pizza for $5. You can buy a Boboli crust at the grocery store for about $4.90 and add your own stuff. Or, you can learn to make your own! It wasn’t that hard or time consuming, and this recipe came out light and softy with a little crunch. It […]

Hunger Makes the Best Sauce

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

So the common wisdom says. Apparently everything tastes good to the hungry palate. But when sick, it’s hard to know one is hungry, because smell and taste are linked so closely; even a growling stomach feels muffled to some extent. Tonight I was able to taste my dinner. It was lovely. I can mostly breathe, […]

My Little Chef

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Claire has grown so very much. She always wants to help me in the kitchen. I’m working on finding ways to get the cooking done and encouraging her participation.

We Are Ready

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Claire chose snack for Santa, and even a snack for the reindeer (particularly Rudolph). Next is a bath, and then bedtime. Tomorrow is a big day! Happy Christmas Eve to all.

Lo, Behold the Cookie

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

In the spirit of incorporating my Husband’s family traditions as well as mine, I tried a new recipe. He grew up making thumbprint cookies with apricot jam, orange marmalade, and mint jelly. Not having those on hand, I used grape jam. Claire didn’t actually help this year, but when she’s older I’ll have her do […]

Mmmmm, Meyer Lemons

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

When we moved here five years ago, I bought a little Meyer lemon tree and put it in a container. Meyer lemons are thought to be a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange, and they are sweeter and lighter tasting than regular lemons. The tree yielded meagerly until this year. Yesterday I picked […]

A Taste of Heaven

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Since Claire has a small mouth and is still learning to chew, she doesn’t gobble up cookies with chocolate chips or M&Ms in them. She’ll even turn them down. (Horrors!) So I searched for a simple cookie and came across a Snickerdoodle recipe. I made it. Oh my, oh my! They make petite little rounds […]

A Yummy Fall Soup

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

This came out exceptionally well, and it was a great way to use a random pack that I’d bought; I wasn’t feeling ambitious enough to make gumbo, etc. Lentil Soup with Andouille Sausage Ingredients 4 1/2 cups chicken stock or canned low-salt chicken broth 4 1/2 cups beef stock or canned broth 1 1/2 cups […]

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I woke feeling lazy, lazy, lazy. However, it is not yet noon and I have managed to vacuum and clean the entire house, get a pork roast started in the crock pot (for pulled pork), and finish knitting and felt two bowls from old stash yarn. I guess the bowls might become gifts… or maybe […]

Slow-Cooker Goodness

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Since my stove-top is compromised (one burner can’t be used) and I don’t want to heat up the oven in the summer anyway, I bought a new crock pot. I haven’t used crock pots much because the recipes often call for different sizes; I had only one, and it seemed impractical to have more than […]

A Circle Goes Round and Round

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Claire will tell you all about that if you ask her what a circle is! Another gratuitous egg photo.

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Last night I enjoyed my annual extravagant outing with several friends. We went to SF for a delicious dinner at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine and then saw a vibrant musical, Wicked. I had a fine, fine time! Alas, while there is much happening, I’ve got zero energy and time to write, but I’ll try later […]
