Bob was up and in the tree when he was a kitten. It mad the holidays….exciting.

What about a soft tree? A plush tree? A pillow tree? A tree that would still be a Xmas tree but wouldn’t break if knocked over by curious hands?

Oh, Xmas without a tree is a sad thing.

What about hanging a tiny tree from your lamp?

(I’m all about the Xmas tree. It ain’t Xmas without one. I can’t have a real one this year, and I’m not into big and fake so I bought a Xmas topiary from a friend at work for a buck–a single dollar, can you imagine?–and it’s so damned festive with its lights and unexpected shape. I swear it makes me happy to plug it in at night.)

Seriously, I understand the whole no tree thing. I wish you could have one. Maybe you could paint or draw one and tape it up to the wall.

No tree or other decorations for us this year, for slightly different reasons – we have a new cat, who at 9 months old, can’t be kept out of anything. I don’t really fancy his destroying the tree. Next year we will probably have the same issue you do this year (as our son should be almost a year old by then).

At least next year, the cat may have calmed down. If so, I’ll be able to put greenery on the mantel, at least – our baby won’t be able to reach that surface yet!
