Belly Update

It’s Sunday already?

Friday we saw the baby doc and all is well. My weight gain is moderate, and there’s no sign of gestational diabetes. The baby’s heartbeat is normal. Every appointment we’ve had, whether with her or for the amnio or ultrasound, Fait has been dancing all over her uterine room. The doctor had to chase her all over my belly again. She commented on how active the baby is, and I replied that she must say that a lot. She said that actually no, most times she’s able to put the device on the patient’s stomach and leave it there for quite awhile to get the heartbeat. I said, “Oh my god, I’m going to have a hyperactive child. It’ll either keep me youthful or be the death of me.” The doctor laughed and assured me that girls tend to be a bit more sedate than little boys, if not a bit more whiny. We really, really like this doctor. She’s mellow and joyful and has a great sense of humor.

Saturday it felt bloody hot, though it only hit the mid-80s. Our home has no air conditioning, because usually you don’t need it here. Except when you do, you really do. Since it’s three stories and there are limited windows, we rely on the loft skylight to help draft the air through the house. Still, I felt wilted, rotund, and slow. Even a little queasy. But we went to the wedding shower of a couple anyway and once I arrived, I felt better (and it cooled off). I have a feeling it will be a challenging summer and that I’ll be a total slug.

Today we are making baby purchases. We plan to buy a swivel rocker, the crib, changing table/dresser, and the “travel system.” We finally settled on one I could handle. I expect it will take time for some of these things to arrive (one couple we know said their recent purchase won’t be delivered for 90 days), so we need to get started!

The baby blanket I started has been stalled as I attempt to finish older projects and get distracted with making small quickie projects (such as felted bowls). Yarn is so much eye candy it’s hard not to get distracted and start something new!

What super news, Kathryn. I’ve been remiss in reading and I’ll catch up soon. I take it the baby is a girl?
