The Latest in Kitty Television

the latest in kitty television

Sophie and Stella watch the litterbox as it performs its cleaning function.

Husband has taken over catbox duties, which he loathes. We were using non-scoopable litter and he hating changing it as frequently as needed; we decided it wasn’t sanitary enough, but he also didn’t want to do daily scooping. So we splurged and bought a Littermaid, although we weren’t sure if they would be afraid of it, since it moves and makes noise. When they hear it working (it scoops 10 minutes after last use and periodically other times) they will run from wherever they are in the house to watch. Apparently curiosity rules!

Holy cats, what a great picture. (Pun very much intended 🙂 )

We’ve been considering one of these since I’m off litter duty as well, and the guys aren’t always around to deal with it. If it’s this hilarious, we have to get one 🙂

My cats were never much interested in watching the automatic one that we had; too bad, because I bet that’s funny! One thing I found with it is that if there’s not enough litter in there and a big clump gets attached to the bottom of the pan, the rakes will scoop that but it ends up pushing clean litter into the receptacle. My biggest problem with that is that my cats tend to all go in the same place, which would create those superclumps, and I’d really have to watch the receptable to make sure that it wasn’t overflowing on one side after about 6 hours.

Your kitties are adorable–and are obviously still settling in from the move–as are you and hubby. I’m a dog person so I didn’t even know there was such a think as you describe. It’s funny to see them watching it. Now–if only some machine could take an occasional pass through my yard and pick up dog poop.

    What a hilarious photograph.

I scoop daily and often wonder if it’d be worth it to invest in one of those self-scooping litterboxes.

When you say non-scoopable, you mean non-clumping?

Clumping litter is maybe the best thing anyone’s ever invented. Ever.

curiosity and a fascination with all things cat-boxy. (ours will go and visit the box after their friends use it, as if to be sure that everything is still working…)

The littermaid isn’t perfect. It does require attention every couple of days to empty the receptacle and scoop out bits, but it does lessen the onerous nature of the task. Yeah, by non-scoopable I mean non-clumping. It was less dust producing, but in the end the scoopable is much better.
