Art Every Day Month – Day 25

It’s a socklette!

art everyday month 06 - day 25 - socklette

I took a class today and made this little sock. I learned to knit on five double-pointed needles in the round, to make ribbing, a heal flap, to turn the heel, to make a gusset, and to close the toe with the Kitchener stitch (makes for an entirely seamless sock). It took me 3 hours and 45 minutes, and I was so proud of myself at the end. This is a big jump from knitting rectangles. I’ll use this as an ornament. Now that I have the basics, I can make larger socks. I can see how it would become addicting. The yarn is beautiful and these are quick to make, and one always needs socks.

Big thanks to Nathania for being an excellent teacher.

You’re right, the yard IS beautiful! My mom could knit and tried teaching me but I was always a crocheter: 1 needle, much more controllable! Once she made me this beautiful heather blue sweater, long (because I’m tall) body and sleeves. Someone stole it from my house during a rather interesting part of my life (that is a whole ‘nother story)….and you know, it wasn’t just a piece of clothing. Hand made anything, especially clothes, have all kinds of things knit into them.

Not big enough for a Christmas stocking… ‘cept for bad little boys and girls.
