This afternoon I was out running errands. I went to Borders to look for a few Christmas gifts, and I felt suddenly very sad. Blank. Overwhelmed. Then I went to Mervyn’s to purchase some socks and underwear for the UU Undie Sunday (we donate new underclothes to homeless shelters), and in the midst of trying [...]

Finis!
“Most Bounteous” / 5 x 7″ canvas board with acrylic paint, embellishments, cloth and paper collage
This collage features an antique postcard that someone gave me. The buttons are from my mother’s collection that I “inherited” when I ask for art supplies. I really like the result!
Well, I did it. I made art for 30 days [...]

I had a better day today. Since I was tired and cold last night, I went to bed at 8:00 p.m. and slept for 12 hours. When I woke up at 8:00 this morning, I ate my cereal and scooted over to the gym, where I exercised on the treadmill for 40 minutes. Upon returning [...]

I made broccoli quiche tonight because it was so cold out. The trick with quiche, I’ve learned, is to use real cream, or at least half-and-half. It makes a custard that holds up well. It looked so darn good when I took it out of the oven that I took a photo of it. The [...]

My parents sent Husband a gift. Rather than wrestle with wrapping paper, I painted the box. It was fun, like child’s play. I like the result. After he opens the present, I’ll keep the box and store Christmas items in it.

I’m suffering an attack of laziness. My plan from Monday-Friday is to get up, eat breakfast, and hie myself to the gym for a workout. It worked wonderfully last week; I felt lively and had so much of the day in which to do things. I’ve also tried to be mindful about what I eat, [...]

“Mask” / Paper mache with beads and embellishments
This is also my piece for Illustration Friday. This week’s theme is “Invention.” We invent masks to wear around different people: the hard worker at the job, the clever conversationalist at a party. Some of these masks are barely different from who we really are; they add a [...]

I love me some Dave Barry.
In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it “Christmas” and went to church; the Jews called it “Hanukkah” and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say “Merry Christmas!” or “Happy Hanukkah!” [...]

“Lone Star Memories” / 4 x 6″ card stock collage with oil pastel, dye-based ink, and embellishments
Been thinking of Austin lately… missing it, and Texas, and my peeps there.
