The Peninsula AmeriCorps Program Coordinator Job Description
Working with our Program Managers and Community Programs Director, this AmeriCorps Member will create and coordinate volunteer projects and initiatives that address a wide range of impact areas that affect the communities with in the Peninsula.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Assessing the unique assets and needs of different neighborhoods and communities within their region.
  2. Developing new partnerships with community based agencies.
  3. Providing support to Community Programs Managers in the maintenance and development of our calendar programs.
  4. Managing all aspects of our relationship with our Project Leaders, including trainings, recognition events, and support.
  5. Developing the program curricula and volunteer leadership for three TeamWorks series within their region.
  6. Researching, building, and implementing a ‘Citizen Academy’, which may include community forums, issue-focused book groups, and other educational opportunities that will educate and empower our volunteers.
  7. Collaborating with regional volunteer committees to meet program goals.
  8. Performing program related administrative duties.
  9. Actively participating in programs as both a leader and a representative of Hands On Bay Area.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Comfortable with diverse groups of people: competence in a language other than English highly preferred!
  • Interest in non-profit work and belief in the value of community service.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, including Internet navigation, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust to an evolving work environment.
  • Requirements
    The Peninsula Program Coordinator will have work space with in the Peninsula, but will be required to report to Hands On Bay Area’s San Francisco office (right across from the CalTrain station) three times a week. These positions require access to reliable personal transportation, as well as some evening and weekend work. Weekly office hours will be 9:00am-5:00pm Monday – Thursday and 9:00am-12:00pm on Friday.
    Applicants must:

    1. Be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents and at least 18 years of age.
    2. Commit to a 12 month time frame, minimum of 1700 hours, beginning October 2006. No relocation assistance will be available.
    3. Have completed at least two years college course work or equivalent non-profit experience.
    4. Have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
